HALT HORIZON
by Jack Michael

HALT
(v) bring or come to an abrupt stop.
(n) a suspension of movement or activity, typically a temporary one.

HORIZON
(n) the line at which the earth's surface and the sky appear to meet; the limit of a person's mental perception, experience, or interest.

Daughter of the dirt turned urbanite, Atlanta artist Jack Michael works in printmaking, painting, weaving, and sewing to probe the tensions between manmade & natural systems. In this show of new etchings and painted handwoven textiles, the artist addresses dangers that the current political climate pose to the environment and wildlife at the Mexican border, and how those dangers affect us all. Recently returned from a solo motorcycle trek to the Mexican border, a month-long studio research residency with The Central School Project, and a trans-national weaving on the US/Mexico border fence, Michael asserts an intellectual and political call to arms to prioritize Nature’s systems over American politics, ego, and industry.
